Nicole was an artist, and like most artists, she was tortured. The present cause of suffering being her lack of motivation, sedated creativity, and unlucky timing. Nicole was working to finalize the pieces for her very own art exhibit at her cousin’s gallery. The exhibit had a consistent theme of “coming-of-age” that told the story of a young girl growing into her womanhood, and Nicole had less than forty-eight hours to get the final piece done.
Throughout the day, Nicole had tried everything to stimulate her mind. First, she tried reading books (from Dr. Seuss to J.K. Rowling), then she tried listening to music (from The Beatles to Coldplay), and she tried watching TV, too (from Law & Order to Spongebob Squarepants).
Nothing had sparked any ideas.
And so, she began to tidy up her apartment. She was told that the best way to find something misplaced was to begin cleaning, and then the Object would appear on its own. Nicole hoped the same would be true for her misplaced creativity.
Well into her cleaning adventure, her cell phone rang and Nicole happily took advantage of the opportunity to procrastinate. Twenty minutes into post-break-up coaching with her old college roommate, Nicole had a marvelous realization from an unlikely source.
On her desk, was a parametric style box by Objects New York. In the midst of her cleaning-frenzy she had mindlessly thrown random knick-knacks into the box, and she found the assortment of these knickknacks to have wonderful potential.
In the box, there was a photo of herself as a child dressed up for her first day of pre-school, her mother crouched down, smiling wide behind her. There was also a beaded bracelet she made years ago on a family-trip to the Caribbean. A candy wrapper, tube of lipstick, and earring also resided in the box.
Then, Nicole decided her final painting would be of her favorite childhood memories inside a parametric box to convey thankfulness for her inner-living child.
